The 2017 UAV Conference held at AUT campus in Auckland earlier this year Attracted many trade stores, Drone Hobbyist and Business owners eager to meet like minded people and learn what new developments that has happened leading into this years event. Over the two days a programme set with many speakers introducing there respective feilds from Drone Application on Farms to Drone Delivery and futher discussion on Drone Operators responsibilities.
WHO ARE USING DRONES FOR NEW APPLICATIONS
Flirtey a New Zealand company is teaming up with Dominos pizza in a bid to Deliver pizza using drones with Autonomous flying, they have already run successful trials to selected homes in Auckland. More to came from this space as flirtey await the approval process from CAA. With the likely outcame of Drone delivery door to door from selected pizza stores later this year.
Another highlight for me was listening to a guest speaker demonstrate how he uses drones for two specific purposes on his farm
To take pictures of his farm to build a 3D model so he can use to monitor shifts in land soil using a thermal camera attached to the drone.
While flying his drone over Live stock he can Monitor his cattle via gps tags. This farmer has identified and by Understanding How to implement drones can play a postive part in reducing costs in the Arguculture sector.
THE DRONE ZONE
I was very excited to be apart of the event as I could see a great oppertunity for me to continue building futher relationships within the industry. Walking around and looking at the different trade sites offering Drone photography and video to Aerial spray solutions from much bigger drones with a weight size from 25kg and above. I met and talked with Drone Operators from all over New Zealand and probably passed out over 100 business cards.
From my experience The Drone Industry in New Zealand is heading in a postive direction to more accommodate the ever growing numbers that are Drone Operators more leniency with there flying Operations and to promote better understanding of there flying Rules and Regulations as set by the New Zealand leading Air authority. Special mention and thankyou to all who attended, the talk from the crowd is that we are all looking forward to next years event.
